Day 3 - The road to "The Way"

Mostly a travel day today. After a 600 kilometre drive from Madrid, we arrived at Santiago de Compostela around 4:45. Some scenery along the way but I've seen this show before. Many nodding heads jarred to conciousness after bouncing off the windows in the coach, (mine included).

"The Coach". Certainly comfortable enough for a nap, with the exception of the windows of course.

"Valley of the Fallen" - a monument conceived by General Francisco Franco to honour and bury those who perished fighting his crusade during the Spanish Civil War. Lots of controversy around this story.
Hundreds of wind turbines can be seen on hilltops throughout Spain
Occasionally between head nods, a hilltop castle and church would appear
The cathedral and resting place of Saint James in Santiago de Compostela is the final destination for thousands of pilgrims each year. According to the "Pilgrims Office" in Santiago, they officially recognized over 200,000 completed pilgrimages in 2013.

The movie "The Way" starring Martin Sheen and written, produced and directed by Emilio Estevez is an interesting story of one man's journey along the Way of Saint James from St. Jean Pied de Port France, to Santiago Spain. More to come after we explore more of this city tomorrow.
