Off to Vernon and the Okanagan Valley

Friday was mostly a travel day as we leave the beautiful Alberta Rockies in the rear view mirror and travel about 475 klm along the Trans Canada highway to the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia.

One of the views I've been meaning to post here, is that of a specific bridge type seen frequently along Highway 1. This bridge is not intended to allow vehicular traffic to cross the highway, but rather it provides a wildlife crossing. Long stretches of the roadway are fenced to aid in the prevention of vehicular / mammal interactions, so these wildlife overpasses are provided every so often. In some areas, under road pathways are also provided.

Animal Crossing

Our journey took us through  Banff, Lake Louise and into BC through the  Kicking Horse Pass and Yoho National Park and on through Glacier National Park using Rogers Pass. The following are a just a few scenes from our drive through the mountains.

We finally enter the Okanagan Valley and our first glimpses of Okanagan Lake.

Our new digs for the next few nights are (to use a Newfoundlander term), "not a bad bit nice". We are  on a hillside in rural Vernon overlooking the lake.
Home for a while.
The view from our deck.

Nice Digs
Bill and Michaela are able to join us for the weekend. Nice.
The gang's all here !
Off to wine country tomorrow.
