Rain Delay

We left Venice today for the 260 klm trip south to San Marino, a self governed republic within the borders of Italy. So effectively, we are in another country tonight.

Our first stop though is in the quiet and quaint city of Revenna. It was the capital of the Western Roman Empire from 402 until the empire collapsed in 476. The age and history of this part of the world is fascinating.

The mosaic ceiling of the Arian Baptistry in Revenna is a beautiful work of art.

The tomb of Dante who wrote the "Divine Comedy" and is considered to be the Father of the Italian language.

Lillian stopped here in a local church to light a candle for her aunties.

A classic 1938 Bianchi in a local shop window. I'm guessing it's worth a small fortune.

After a relaxing lunch on the patio of a country side eatery, we continue on to San Marino. The clouds are moving in as we make our way up the mountain to the city-state.

And the rain begins to fall just as we arrive and make the short uphill walk to our hotel.

By the time we've checked in to the hotel, it's pouring out. We venture out for a short time, but most are soon taking shelter, and an impromptu happy hour begins in the hallway. In all, about 18 of the 46 on our trip eventually join the party, creating an echoing din in the halls of this old establishment.

The rain begins to subside after dinner and a few of us decide a walk might help clear the wine and lasagna induced fog in our heads. So off we go and I'm finally able to get a couple of shots of what seems to be a beautiful city.

It's raining again but the girls are smiling anyway.

Google is a wonderful thing. The following shot is not my photo, but I thought I'd look to see some of what we missed here. Oh, well. Maybe next time.

Despite the rain we had a wonderful time today, chatting and getting to know a few more folks on this trip. That is really part of the fun of these tours.

It's off to Assisi in the morning. Ciao.
