Quebec Wasn't in the Tour Brochure...

We spent about ten minutes in Quebec today. Did the ferry crossing of the Strait of Belle Isle to spend a day and night in Labrador. The vessel lands in Blanc Sablon Quebec, which was kind of nice for Lil and I as it's the home town of our old friends and neighbours in Hamilton. I recall them telling us that the small town was about a 20 minute walk from the Labrador border.  They weren't exaggerating. The only reason it took our bus 10 minutes to get to the border, was a construction delay.

The "Big Land" is Labrador and this sign signifies that you have crossed the border from Quebec into Labrador
The Strait of Belle Isle is also known as Iceberg Alley, which was somewhat troubling given we crossed it in a miserable rainy fog. The shot of this little guy was in a bay several kilometres north of our ferry crossing.
The scenery on the ride up the coast of Labrador was spectacular.
Lunch today was at the Whalers Restaurant in Red Bay
Red Bay is a national historic site where the Basques began a whaling operation to render very valuable whale oil from the blubber. This shot is across the bay to one of the original whale processing stations.
Our tour is being filmed for promotional material for Globus and the Newfoundland/Labrador Tourism. Peter is the videographer. He worked for the CBC across Canada doing investigative reporting until he left to start his own production company in 2007.  He wanted to move back to Newfoundland.
Top of the lighthouse at L'Anse Amour. It's automated now and runs on a single 500 watt bulb. If it burns out, it automatically rotates to a new bulb.
The old light which at one time burned whale oil.
With today's weather, that lighthouse sure was needed.
